DIY Party Invitations

Our engagement party was a few years ago now but this DIY just happens to be the first we created as a couple. Taylor has always been a thrifty person so when it came to organising our engagement party we were going to be doing a lot ourselves to save money. The first of which was our invitations.

Now this was a bit of fun! We knew we wanted to keep the design pretty simple so decided to go with a black and white theme for the stationary. So we did a lot of research on Pinterest, google images and Youtube. The Sorry Girls are a Canadian duo on Youtube and were the main source of inspiration for our invitations. They made watercolour invitations for a wedding and we use this idea and modified it slightly to suit our engagement theme.

We started with printing four invitations onto A3 sheets of water colour paper. Having nearly no experience with using watercolour we did a few testers to find the best method and the look that we wanted. We bought a guillotine to help us with cutting out each invitation and it did the job but wasn’t of the best quality so we had

to do a couple of passes to cut all the way through.

Then it was watercolour time, so we put on our worst clothes, laid out a drop sheet and started painting approximately 50 invitations. We opted to

have a thick header on our invitations and do an black ombre look, with it beginning the darkest at the top and fading towards the details on the invitation.

We also decided to create our own envelopes to suit so we purchased half grey and half textured black and white paper. Lucky for us Mitch's mum is very crafty and has a tool that makes envelope making a breeze, "American Crafts We R Memory 123 Punch Board”. The trickiest part? The calligraphy that we needed to learn. There are still improvements to be made in that department but we loved the way it all turned out.

We also ended up doing a few DIYS for the decorations for our party, like spray painting wine bottles to place pillar candles in and you saw our donut stand.

We loved how everything came together and had a great time celebrating with our family and friends. We opted out of doing many DIY's for the wedding but we did give calligraphy a go again.

Until next time friends,

Love TM xx
