Another fun and easy DIY project coming at ya!
We were lucky enough to find this wooden box on the side of the road in an industrial area and straight away we saw a potential DIY project that we have desperately been needing. An organizational item for our entry way where we could store the shoes we wear everyday and the dog walking accessories (not the best looking décor hanging off our coat rack).
This is a pretty straight forward project and could easily be recreated you just need to keep an open mind and an eye out on the side of the road.
Materials:
Wooden box/storage unit
Paint or stain if desired
Legs
Leg plates
Drill
Sand paper/sander
Method:
1. Our box had these big chunky "legs" nailed in to the base and we wanted a more sleek look so we decided to remove them and this was a bit of a process. Mitch had to hit these with a hammer and they eventually fell off. We then had to push the nail back through the to completely remove it.
2. Once all the legs and nails were removed we used gap filler to fill the holes and sanded it back once it was dry.
3. We also gave the whole box a good sand so that there was a good clean surface for our paint.
4. The box was then wiped down so that there was no dirt or debris that would get stuck in the paint.
5. We used left over paint from our interior doors and trims as we knew that this would be used very frequently and glossy paint doesn’t scuff as easily. This required 2 coats and some spot touches and it was good to go.
6. Now it is time to add the leg plates. We wanted angled legs to match our new couch and had to buy specific leg plates for this. We placed them directly in the corners and marked where the screws would need to go.
7. Pre drill your screw holes!! We don’t want any wood splitting so be sure to do a small pilot hole for each of your screws.
8. And you should be able to screw your legs directly into your leg plates!! The thread on the legs was quite long on the ones we purchased and we weren't able to simple screw them in as they would go all the way, so we trimmed these to fit with a hand saw.
We have just added some nice storage boxes to two of the cubbies and decorated with pillows and we love how this turner out functionally and it isn't too bad to look at either.
We hope you guys enjoyed another DIY and are getting inspired to do some yourselves!
Until next time,
Love TM xx
