DIY Lables

Today we are talking making your own labels, more specifically though we are talking pantry organization. We have all seen those beautiful pantries on Instagram or Pinterest. I'm talking clear containers, jars, baskets the whole nine yards! What they all seem to have in common and the element that I believe brings the whole thing together are those damn labels! We've done the research and those labels are not cheap! I understand that a lot of work and design goes into them but we simply can't justify spending money on something like this when its basically just for aesthetics, and I am sure we aren't alone on that. That's where this DIY comes into play. now these are not going to be as high quality and you are limited to font colours but they're almost FREE!

We've already got out beautiful containers, we opted for clear containers with a white lid, so clean and simple. To make them look even better (and to be able to distinguish between our different flours and sugars etc) we are making some labels.

Now these are soooo simple to do and with a little trial and error we’ve come up with a few tips to help you guys out if you decide to give these a go.

Things you’ll need:

  • Paper, with your words of choice for your labels printed on them (the font we have used here is Lucinda Handwriting which is available in word, but you can find your own fancy texts from heaps of websites online)

  • Packing tape

  • Scissors

  • Bowl/container

  • Water

  • Credit card (or something similar)

  • Tea towel

Method

1. You are going to want to lay a piece of tape over the word and smooth it out as best as possible. First tip: secure the tape prior to the word with plenty of room and smooth the tape as you go rather than sticking it all then trying to smooth it out. If you get lumps/bumps in the tape the wording will not transfer properly. Repeat this step with all of your words.

2. Cut around your words, for these labels I have chosen to simply cut a rectangle around the word but for another project I chose to cut as closely to the word as possible to try and make it look less like a sticker.

3. Now you are going to submerge all of the stickers completely under water and let them soak for 5 minutes or as needed.

4. You’re then going to rub the paper away from the tape and the word should be transferred. While trialing this method I found on a few occasions once I had rubbed away the paper there would still be some remnants remaining. So I would soak the affected stickers again in a fresh bowl of water and allow it to sit before rubbing again to get them as clear as possible.

5. Drying time. The best way to do this is having the sticky side facing up wards away from your tea towel. It is a quicker process if it is facing downwards however there is the chance of getting fluff stuck to your sticker and them not being as clear.

6. Once dried, you’re going to use the credit card smoothing method whilst applying these to your containers.

And there you have it, some super cute DIY stickers which are completely customizable. We absolutely love these and they make our pantry look so much more organised.

Love TM xx
